XDC 2022 Canceled
Due to increased travel restrictions for both entering the UK and the US and uncertainty about the new COVID variant, we have received a high number of XDC cancellations. Because of this we have made the difficult decision to cancel XDC 2022. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause those who have already made travel plans. Registered attendees are being contacted directly and will receive refunds in full. If you have booked a hotel room, you will need to cancel it yourself in order to avoid charges. The XDC website will be updated shortly to reflect the cancellation in case anyone needs to use that to get travel refunds.
It is really disappointing to have to do this again. One of my favorite things about my job is planning these fun events to get developers together. Unplanning a conference is now my least favorite thing to do; we already had our flights and hotels booked, so it felt like it was going to happen. Sessions and speakers were lined up. Evening event planning was in process. It was going to be an awesome event. I'd like to thank all of those who submitted sessions, it's a lot of work to put those together and we really appreciate it!
When travel becomes more reliable, we will rebook the conference. In the meantime, we plan on holding a virtual event in the spring so we can tell you about all of the exciting things going on at Xojo. We hope to see you at a future Xojo event!

Since Xojo 2021r3 introduces new Desktop controls, we updated our own controls for this change. Whether you use Window or DesktopWindow, in both cases you can enjoy one of our 29 controls. The plugin have been updated to the new plugin SDK and we updated our Chromium classes to the newer version used Xojo now.
Our XL classes for using LibXL to edit Microsoft Excel documents got updated for the version 4.0 of LibXL. This includes a new XLFormControlMBS class to work with form controls on a sheet.
We improved our support for WebView2 on Windows with a NewWindowRequested event to catch the case when a link should open in a new window. Your application can create a new window and return the reference. The new WebView2WindowFeaturesMBS class provides details for the new window.
For DynaPDF we have a new DynaPDFVersionInfoMBS class to provide details on the PDF version of an import or the working PDF. We improved our ConvertStyledText function for styled text to better handle fonts. The new AddButtonImageEx2 function lets you pass image data directly for a button control on a PDF.
On Windows our plugin uses preemptive threads for MT methods with a thread pool. The pool can now be configured if needed with the WinThreadPoolMBS class. Our NSURLRequestMBS class can now set attribution for macOS Monterey to define whether the software or the user entered an URL. The SQL classes can cache prepared statements for faster performance in tight loops.

Ohanaware Co., Ltd. are very proud to announce the immediate release of Notched Up. Ohanaware's Notch Simulator attempts to draw a Notch on any Mac running 10.13 (High Sierra) or newer, as close to the actual physical size of the Notch in Apple's latest 14" and 16" MacBook Pro as possible.
Notched Up was designed to aid developers by displaying a close to real life Notch on their existing screens, which allows developers to see what menus do not fit on the left side of the Notch, without having to purchase both the 14" and 16" MacBook Pro.
Once developers can see which menus do not fit on the left side of the Notch, developers can then make a decisions as to what do about the menus in their applications, such as combining menus, re-naming menus, using icons instead of labels or culling some menus.

Using the fp multi-precision engine, fpPlugin 11.0 for Xojo now supports MacOS ARM. It has eight data types:
BigInteger, BigFloat, BigComplex, BigFraction, BigPoly, BigFloatMatrix, BigComplexMatrix, BigFractionMatrix All types have unlimited precision.
fpPlugin allows a developer to construct Xojo programs which can handle the eight data types much like doubles and integers are handled. To a large extent the plugin's data types can be freely used with the +, -, *, and / operators, and can be used in comparisons. And some of Xojo's functions have been overloaded to take the plugin's data types, where it makes sense to do so.

iOSDesignExtensions modules are now updated for iOS API 2.0 and all Mobile-prefixed controls. Three years ago, iOSDesignExtensions was released with 100 extensions methods. There are now more than 150 extensions.
With this set of extensions, it is easy to add a background color to any control, change the color displayed in a MobileSwitch when value is True, add rounded borders to buttons and container controls. Some advanced features enable recoloring a picture using its mask and adjusting font size for any control that displays a text label.

Kem Tekinay of MacTechnologies Consulting is pleased to release M_Norm, a Unicode Normalization module as part of the free M_String package.
Unicode Normalization is an intricate way to convert strings to a standard, or "normal", form suitable for searching. The M_Norm module uses pure Xojo code to support all four forms of Normalization, and is fast, cross-platform, and completely compatible. In fact, M_Norm passes all the unit tests provided by Unicode.org , unlike the native Mac and Windows functions. (The unit tests are included in the package.)
But if you still prefer to use the OS-native tools, M_Norm lets you do that too on Mac, Windows, and iOS.
The M_String module includes dozens of functions for working with strings that range from an easy way to repeat a string to wrapping paragraphs with padding.

If you've ever wished the Xojo Listbox control was a little more flexible, DataView may be what you've been looking for. With variable row heights, row span and column span, DataView can accommodate an endless number of layouts.
DataView also adds numerous other features, including Reorder-able Columns, ProgressBar cells, PopupMenu cells and DatePicker cells. You can even design your own cells using the CellContainer, subclassed from ContainerControl: add textfields, canvases, and whatever else you suits your needs.
DataView is subclassed from piDogScrollingCanvas, giving it a natural scroll behavior on macOS using a native NSScrollview to handle navigation. piDogScrollingCanvas also provides native scrollbar rendering on Linux and Windows and adds a smooth scrolling feel.

ARGen generates Xojo code classes and user interface elements to interact with databases with Xojo code rather than SQL. AXImageCanvas greately simplifies the task of displaying a Picture into the containing control area, with the ability to correctly display the image maintaining its original aspect ratio keeping the original picture at its full resolution. This emulates the new framework's ParseJSON and GenerateJSON functions but with the classic (soon to be API 2.0) framework. While the native functions work with Text, Xojo.Core.Dictionary, and Auto(), these will work with String, Dictionary, and Variant(). More, GenerateJSON_MTC has an optional parameter to produce a formatted ("pretty") string.
JSONItem_MTC is a drop-in replacement for the native JSONItem that is faster and compensates for some bugs found in the native version. There is also a window subclass that will automatically created a mirror image of your window that you can put in a projector or second monitor. This "ghost" will reflect almost everything in your main window in real-time and will show the cursor position as a red dot, like a laser pointer. You can have multiple windows open, each with its own "ghost" that will maintain order as you cycle through the main windows. There is even a scaler that will let you scale all the "ghosts" at once.
