Excerpt of article text...
I've been using Apple's Vision Pro for several weeks, and I'm still unsure how to describe my feelings. It's such a complex and unusual product. Its flaws are numerous and obvious—it's bulky, heavy, expensive, and isolating—and yet at the same time it delivers a truly stunning new expression of personal computing (see Figure 1).
It's possible that all the criticism of the device will be laughed at in the future. Look at how naive and ridiculous these infamous quotes about previous Apple technology seem today:
- "The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a 'mouse.' There is no evidence that people want to use these things." —John C. Dvorak
- "No wireless. Less space than a Nomad. Lame." —Rob Malda, referring to the initial iPod.
- "[Apple's iPhone] is the most expensive phone in the world and it doesn't appeal to business customers because it doesn't have a keyboard which makes it not a very good email machine... So, I, I kinda look at that and I say, well, I like our strategy. I like it a lot." —Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, January 17, 2007
- "Any tablet computer, including Apple's eagerly anticipated iPad, will face serious problems in generating big sales. Tablets look cool, but the reality is they don't do anything new." —Michael Comeau
