Lately, it seems that everything in the tech world is getting worse: security is becoming a priority as scams and fraud proliferate, operating systems are becoming more complicated and restrictive, there's an endless stream of new hardware making it impossible to keep up, and even basic websites are festooned with ads and clickbait.

It's making me long for simpler days. I think that's why I found working on my retro "Invaders from Space" game for this issue so refreshing. It's simple tech— nothing fancy—and I really like that. I believe I'll explore it more in future issues.

In This Issue

In our cover story, Eugene shows how to use a gyroscope with your Raspberry Pi, while I write about my retro Space Invaders game.

Tim explains MQTT, a messaging protocol that sounds really neat! He demonstrates how to use it with Xojo.

I continue my Design Pattern series with the Command pattern, which can be used to easily add undo support to any app. It's really cool.

In our columns, Tim interviews Kem Tekinay, Paul talks about retro games in Xojo, Stefanie covers overlays, and I explore ChatGPT 4o-mini. Enjoy!
